Our Board of Directors

  • President Amy Francais

Music has always been a part of who Amy is as a person. Her earliest memories include learning beginner piano from her mom and singing along to old country and bluegrass tunes while her grandfather sang and played guitar. Naturally when the opportunity arose to take band,  in Grade 7, she took it.  Community music organizations have always been important to her. She was a member of the community band in the Comox Valley while she was in high school.  Her love of music continued into a career of teaching music in schools and privately.

She began her journey with the North Battleford City Kinsmen Band in 2009 when she first moved to the community. She was a member of the Intermediate Band and the Battlefords Concert Band before it amalgamated with the NBCK Band.  She eventually joined the Board as a Member at Large and in November of 2020 took on the role of President.

When she’s not working or making music, Amy spends her time with her husband, three kids and three cats.

  • Treasurer David Dekker

David joined the NBCK Band at 11 years of age under the direction of the late Norm Lehman. He wanted to play drums but Mr. Lehman handed him an E-flat clarinet. At the University of Saskatchewan, David performed with the Intensely Vigorous College Nine.

Returning to North Battleford, he eventually joined the Battlefords Concert Band and marched in parades with the Humperville High School Rum and Bugle Corps.  David was President of the Battlefords Concert Band when it amalgamated with the North Battleford City Kinsmen Band in 2011.  He is a past-president and current treasurer.

David is proud of the band’s history and the impact it has on members and the community. Playing music is fun, promotes teamwork, relieves stress, forges friendships, exercises the mind and boosts creativity.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or an accomplished musician, the NBCK Band is a place for everyone.

  • Member-at-Large Regan Woytowich

Regan Woytowich’s love of music began in sixth grade when he chose the saxophone as his school instrument. He joined the NBCK band in 1990 as a student and participated in the concert, jazz, and marching bands throughout his teenage years. He also played with the concert and jazz bands at NBCHS. After high school, he took a break from band while completing his schooling to become a journeyman auto body mechanic. He has been employed at Boyd Autobody (formerly Spectra Collision) since 1996.

As as adult, Regan re-joined the NBCK band on the early 2000s and hasn’t missed a year since. His main instrument is the tenor saxophone, though he has played the alto sax at times and has recently picked up the bari sax. He is currently a member of the NBCK concert band and jazz band, and also plays in a saxophone quartet group.

Regan was born and raised in North Battleford and now lives here with his wife, Sarah, and their two daughter, Anna and Nora.

  • Member-At-Large Kyle Materi

I've been in the band for over a decade and a board member for 5 or 6 years. I learned the trumpet in grade 5 and haven't stopped playing. When I'm not playing music I play video games, read books and am currently training to be a pilot.
